The details:
In 2021-2022, Microsoft's global water consumption spiked by 34%, with the UC researchers pinning it down to rising AI demands.
Google also reported a 20% growth in water usage during the same period.
The data center reportedly uses up to half a liter of water for 5 to 50 ChatGPT queries, influenced by server location and weather factors.

The Rundown: The U.S. government will start leveraging AI to uncover potential tax violations by wealthy individuals and large partnerships, according to a new release from the IRS.
Key points:
AI already helped the IRS identify and begin investigations into 75 partnerships with over $10B in assets.
The IRS pledged not to increase audit rates for those earning less than $400,000 annually, prioritizing increased scrutiny on high-income earners and large corporations.
