The Rundown: As Google gets ready for its Pixel event on Oct. 4, an X/Twitter user by the name of Arséne Lupin just leaked an upcoming Pixel 8 ad, revealing new AI features.

Key details:

  • The leaked ad features the process of transferring data to a Pixel 8.

  • Details feature some of the phone's AI features, like Best Take which allows users to swap in faces from other photos and Magic Eraser.

  • Apart from the AI functionalities, the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models will also sport first-party silicone cases in various colors.

Why it matters: It’s clear Google is going all-out for the AI industry when they accidentally “leak“ their new AI features for the Pixel 8. These announcements come straight off the heels of OpenAI’s recent venture in creating the “iPhone of AI“. Coincidence?

REWIND

The Rundown: Popular AI platform Rewind just introduced ‘Rewind Pendant‘, a wearable necklace that captures what you say and hear in the real world, allowing you to summarize your days using AI.

The details:

  • Rewind is an AI app that records what you see across your computer — with the new Pendant now bringing this feature to the real-world.

  • The Rewind Pendant is powered by everything you’ve seen, said, or heard, and allows you to summarize that info using AI.

  • The Pendant is available to pre-order for $59.

  • The site emphasis privacy in that it offers features to “ensure no one is recorded without their consent“ — but fails to elaborate.

Our thoughts: While benefits of the Pendant for users with ADHD and memory issues is clear, it’s hard not to think about the serious privacy implications of wearing a recording device 24/7 — and it’s causing quite the controversy across social media.

AI TRAINING

ChatGPT’s recent multimodal upgrades have been all the rage — but not everyone has access yet.

Did you know that Bing provides powerful image, chat, and voice functions rivaling ChatGPT Plus — entirely for free?

Try it out using the steps below:

  1. Access Bing Chat: On desktop, go to bing.com/chat. On mobile, download the Bing app.

  2. Leverage visuals: Click the icon in the bottom left to upload or take a photo. Prompt Bing to describe or modify it. Ex: Attach a graphic — ask Bing to “explain the image to me in an easy-to-understand way.”

  3. Enable voice conversations: Click the mic icon to talk to Bing — it will respond conversationally with its own voice.

  4. Generate art with DALL-E 3: In creative mode, prompt to create anything you can imagine. Check out Monday’s newsletter for more on DALL-E 3 — which can even handle text generation!

Spotify appears to be experimenting with AI-powered playlists, according to code found within the app by tech investor Chris Messina. While Spotify declined to confirm, the code suggested the feature allows users to generate playlists based on prompts, possibly introduced under the Blend genre.

Stability AI just launched an experimental version of Stable LM 3B — a compact 3 billion parameter AI optimized for portability on handhelds and laptops. Despite size, it surpasses previous 3B parameter models and even challenges 7B ones. Another big move for open-source AI!
