META

The Rundown: Meta open-sourced their large language model LlamA 2 (ChatGPT competitor), authorized commercial use, and announced a shocking partnership with Microsoft.
Key points:
Llama 2 outperforms GPT3 and performs on par with ChatGPT in terms of chat model quality (lacks in coding, though)
Meta has conducted extensive safety evaluations and has incorporated context distillation and RLHF for safety purposes
Available for commercial use unless a product has more than 700 million monthly active users
As part of the Meta and Microsoft partnership, it will be available through Microsoft’s Azure platform
Qualcomm is also collaborating with Meta to integrate Llama 2 into laptops, phones, and headsets from 2024 onward
Llama 2 will also be available through AWS, Hugging Face, and other providers
A few sites are already hosting Llama, but this one by Perplexity is currently The Rundown favorite
Why it matters: The open sourcing of Llama 2 will shake up the entire LLM market. This will compete directly against ChatGPT and other major LLMs AND massively threaten open-source startups such as Mosiac and Red Pajama. The AI games have just begun.

Microsoft is testing Microsoft 365 Copilot with about 600 customers before a broader rollout
The full launch date hasn't been specified yet
Why it matters: As Microsoft continues to push its AI-centric strategy, it'll be intriguing to see how many Microsoft 365 users truly integrate Copilot. Nonetheless, investors seemed to love it.
