The Rundown: Nvidia continues to bring heat to the AI chip game. The company unveiled a new blazing-fast processor called GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip designed for massive AI models at SIGGRAPH 2023.
Key points:
Packed with 141GB of next-gen memory, GH200 can handle huge AI models for nonstop predictions and content creation.
Nvidia says the cost of powering LLMs will ‘drop significantly’.
The new chip will help Nvidia flex on rivals like AMD, Google, and Amazon trying to take a bite of the lucrative AI silicon market.
Nvidia also announced major upgrades to its Omniverse platform, a new AI Workbench for custom enterprise models, and partnerships with Hugging Face and Adobe.

The Rundown: Google and Universal Music Group are discussing whether to license artists’ melodies and vocals for AI-generated music.
Key points:
They’re working to develop a tool that allows users to create AI-generated music using an artist's voice, lyrics, or sounds.
The proposed deal would involve paying copyright holders for the right to create music while giving artists the choice to opt in.
Warner Music Group is also reportedly discussing a similar product with Google.
Why it matters: This is a make-it-or-break-it moment for AI-generated music. If the deals fall through and labels decide to exclude their property from training datasets, it’ll be much longer before we see high-quality AI music.
